The Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Nature Conservation

Full name: The Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Nature Conservation
Abbreviation: IRSNC

The Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Nature Conservation (or IRSNC in short) is a professional national institution. In compliance with the authorizations assigned to it by the Slovenian legislation or, to be more precise, by the Nature Conservation Act (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 96/2004), it takes care for the conservation of Slovene nature, with a special attention given to the nature conservation of the most valuable areas in the country.

The main objective of our Institute is to conserve Slovene nature, with a special care devoted to its most valuable and most threatened parts.

IRSNC participates in all project activities. As a coordinator it is responsible for the implementation of actions A1, D2, E3 and F2.
IRSNC will analyse the situation and review current management of the project area. For the identified deficiencies, it will propose specific solutions.

In order to avoid problems with the implementation of measures in later campaigns, IRSNC will invite all key stakeholders at beginning of the project and together they will form mutual and coherent objectives, policies and measures to manage the site, which will also form the basis for all further project activities.

It is expected that the cross-sectorial network of key stakeholders (Forum for Kočevsko) will be created during the course of the project. The Network will stay informed throughout the project on all content and will help to shape the project solutions. In the long run, the Network will be looking for a new project and development opportunities in the Kočevska sub-region.
At the beginning and in the end of the project, the “socio-economic” evaluation of the area will be carried out. The results of the analysis will show whether the project has contributed to positive social and economic outcomes in the project area and how stakeholders perceive the benefits of the project.

Given that this is a demonstration project, a strong emphasis will be laid on the transfer of project solutions and good practices on other stakeholders and other areas. IRSNC will organize workshops, training courses and raise awareness of key target groups. Best practices will be shared at international conferences and field trips.
