Preparation for establishment of feeding site for white-tailed eagle
Establishment of winter feeding site for white-tailed eagle is one of concrete conservation actions of LIFE Kočevsko (Action C4) with the aim of improving food supply for this species in the area of Natura 2000 Kočevsko. Employees of Slovenia Forest Service (LPN Medved, KE Kočevska Reka) will stock the feeding site with carrion in winter months which could also attract other bird species among which raven (Corvus corax) is the most common. This new food source could potentially increase the raven population in the area and therefore affect the number of conflicts with this species. This dilemma encouraged us to establish monitoring of ravens at the landfill site in Mozelj between May and July this year. Analysis of our results will be published in autumn.
