We confirmed the presence of the capercaillie hen at the lek side
We are happy to announce that with colleague Žitnik D., we had opportunity to observe the capercaillie hen at the only active lek side on May 17, 2016. The hen was flying in a low, somehow clumsy flight into the shelter of the beech crowns, raised high above the ground. In spite of the exceptional protective coloration, I managed to record a photo below. The hen did not perch on a branch for long. Perhaps, this is one of the last representatives of its species in the area.
