The Mound of Giants – Gorenje
(1000 to 400 BC)
The excavations took place under the leadership of Josip Mantuani, PhD in the year 1924.
The prehistory grave was named The Mound of Giants, after the German name Hunenbuchel, since the villagers could easily imagine the giants from the ancient times taking into account the size of the grave.
The hill from the banked up soil measured 6 metres in height and 20 metres in diameter and is nowadays, after settlement, much wider and of course much lower.
The deceased were in such moulds often buried in storeys, in several grooves as well as with additions of weapons, tools or jewellery. However, there is one single grave on the bottom of The Mound of Giants.
