The Lesser Kočevje Alpine trail

Trail description

The Kočevje mountain trail connects the features of the south-west part of the Municipality of Kočevje, Kostel and Osilnica. It runs from the mountain cottage Koča pri Jelenovem Studencu to the Kolpa River near Gorenja Žaga, along the edges of the Kolpa River canyon to the Krempa pass and returns through Borovec and Kočevska Reka pass the Ledena jama cave back to the cottage. The first part leads us through natural and conserved fir-beech forests. On its way it passes a few villages and settlements, indicating a scarce settlement and dense forests of the Kočevje region. The entire Kolpa edge represents a unique habitat of rare and endangered plant and animal species.
