Trail description

The trail marked with the bear’s paw is a great opportunity for a hike through the solitude of the Rog forest. The starting point of a circular trail divided into three sections is the Lake Kočevje. Only a few steps from the blue waters lie the Željnske jame caves where people found their shelter some 20,000 years ago. The Pugled-Žiben forest reserve then invites to you to its time period, before walking a quiet trail all the way to the Rog sawmills the ruins of which indicate the once blooming industry. The land is here and there interrupted by the ruins of long abandoned Gottschee villages. However, the Rajhenav virgin forest and the Queen of Rog have remained here for centuries, while the Prelesnikova koliševka forest reserve conceals the vegetation of the cold north.
