Implementation of conservation activities discussed with district foresters

For better implementation of conservation measures with the aim of improving population sizes of target species, Slovenia Forest Service (Kočevje and Novo mesto) organized six working meetings. Representatives of LIFE Kočevsko group visited 8 regional units (Travna gora, Ribnica, Rog, Pugled, Kočevska Reka – Straža-Podturn, Semič-Metlika and Črnomelj), where a detailed plans for conservation measures foreseen by the LIFE Kočevsko project to regional foresters was presented.  Local unit managers and employees gathered their suggestions, potential concerns regarding these measures and shaped detailed instructions for spatial implementation.

Gathered suggestion are the main segment of measure plans which serve as the basis for concrete conservation actions of implementation in the field (C actions) and will be included in existing systems of forestry planning. Part of the foreseen measures will be implemented within LIFE Kočevsko project. Concrete conservation actions and new forest management techniques are the biggest added value of this demonstrative project. Regional foresters have the most extensive and detailed insight of the forest with its local features therefore their knowledge is of great value for spatial implementation of foreseen measures.
