End of “preparation work” for Natura 2000 Kočevsko national forests measures

As of June 2017, the transfer of planned measures to the forests management practice of Natura 2000 Kočevsko has been completed. As part of the C2 action, tree thinning by girdling and elimination of eco-cells in state-owned forests has been planned in detail. As part of the C3 action, feeding fences for the western capercaillie set up was defined, as well as clearing of certain corridors, mulching, setting up road locks and traffic signs to redirect traffic away from certain roads in the Grouse lekking zone. Quiet zones for both species (hazel grouse and western capercaillie) were defined.

Participating foresters were extremely committing and hard working. Their efforts will help LIFE Kočevsko to completed the planned work within the deadline. We would like to thank all the participants on behalf of SFS Kočevje for their work and successful completion of the work.
