First visitors of the winter feeding ground for the white-tailed eagle
Since obtaining authorizations for installing the winter feeding ground was a long-drawn-out process, we were only allowed to start feeding the white-tailed eagle by the end of February.
23 kg of carrion (dead-born calf from Kočevska Reka farms and game carrion from nearby) was placed at the feeding ground. For now, unfortunately, the white-tailed eagle hasn’t visited the site.
In May, a report on winter feeding ground activities (December 2016 – February 2017) was sent to Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Food Safety, Veterinary Sector and Plant Protection (available in Slovene). The report contains data on white-tailed eagle activities, as well as information about other species visiting the feeding ground.
The most frequent visitors of the feeding ground were the great tit (Parus major), eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius) and common buzzard (Buteo buteo).
