The entrances of cleaned caves are now enclosed and equipped with warning signs

After removing all the waste from caves Vodna 1 and Vodna 3 near Klinja vas, irresponsible individuals left their trails in less than a year. In spite of the established organized waste removal and a landslide in Mozelj, waste again appeared in the sinkhole near the cave Vodna. To this purpose, a fence and a warning board, that reminds us that this is not the right place for waste, were set up.

We also set up a fence along the cave Smetljiva, which was cleared in April 2017. From this cave, we removed 25 m3 of waste, including fresh carrion. Due to the immediate vicinity of the forest road, the location of the cave is exposed to considerable danger for the re-disposal of waste, and at the same time it poses a danger to traffic on the forest road. For these reasons, the cave was closed, protected by a wooden fence and metal gratings. At the cave entrance we set up a warning – informative board about landfill prohibition.

Within the LIFE Kočevsko project a total of 14 informative – warning tables have been placed in front of cave entrances. We want to contribute to a more responsible behavior and, consequently, to the successful protection of our karst underground.
